Yamaha synthetic (resin) reeds are characterized by their ease of playing and sound production, as well as their appearance and feel, which are close to those of a cane reed, making them easy to use even for beginners.

The reed can be used straight out of the package, and the plastic packaging and paper case that encase the reed can be used as a reed case. The paper case is waterproof and resistant to tearing even if the reed is slightly wet.
The Yamaha TSR20 is a synthetic reed for tenor saxophone at strength 2, designed to be ready to play right out of the package with no soaking or breaking-in required. Made from a Yamaha-developed formula based on natural fibrous cane, it offers a natural sound and tonal quality similar to conventional cane reeds, with an original shape featuring a stronger central rib for well-balanced playability across the instrument's range. Unlike cane, it isn't affected by temperature or humidity, making it reliable in a wide range of playing conditions.
Built for durability, Yamaha synthetic reeds have been tested for over 320 hours of playing time (roughly 8 months of typical use) with no detectable change in stiffness or shape, meaning fewer reed replacements over time. The reed number is laser-engraved on the outer surface for durable, legible marking, and strengths follow the same numbering system as traditional cane reeds, so it's easy to find your equivalent. The reed works with Yamaha 4C mouthpieces as well as other tenor sax mouthpieces.
