Country of Origin: Japan Shigaraki ware is pottery made in Shigaraki-cho, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. It is considered one of Japan's six ancient kilns and boasts a long history of over 1200 years. The name "Hechimon" originates from a Shigaraki craftsman's term meaning "unusual or peculiar things." These vessels possess a variety of expressions, much like the diverse shapes created by nature and the individuality of each of us. They are pottery filled with the sincerity and playful spirit of skilled artisans who value "inhomogeneity." The coarse clay, rich in iron, is fired in a cooling reduction firing process, similar to smoked roof tiles. A thin glaze is applied, drawing out various lusters and textures from the clay's components, such as blue-silver and black-silver, creating an attractive appearance that combines a rustic feel with a sense of luxury. The simple design and subdued colors highlight the material's texture, making food look exceptionally appealing. The reversible design allows you to serve food on both sides.
