Do not use in microwaves, ovens, dishwashers, or dish dryers. When cleaning, use dish soap and gently scrub with a soft sponge or cloth. Rubbing too hard with a metal scrubber may cause scratches and damage. This piece features a combination of Edo Kiriko's signature patterns, the "Yarai" (arrow-shaped) and "Nanako" (fish roe) patterns. "Yarai" is the name for the shape of bamboo or logs braided in an alternating pattern. Yarai fences were used in the earliest stages of castle construction and stage set design, and therefore symbolize "building the foundation" or "solidifying the base." "Uoko" refers to fish scales and has the connotation of "large numbers," which in turn represents "fertility" and "abundance." Both are very auspicious traditional patterns that have been loved since ancient times. Edo Kiriko began in the Edo period, and has been designated a traditional Japanese craft as a valuable artefact that conveys Edo life to the present day. All pieces are handmade one by one by skilled artisans.
